Just curious if anyone use this. Thinking about using this instead of a closed loop on my 105G. What do you think?

Jason Jones is. He is pretty happy with it. Probably a very good option for a small tank. Check out the SPS section on the board for his last post and PM him.

Wow that is a lot of flow for a 40G tank. I am planning a 105G tank that is softies and LPS. There web site says one center unit will provide high flow up to a 120G tank. Buy you have that in a 40G. Do you think this will be sufficant flow in a 105G tank? Also my Oceanic has a center brace. Can i mount this on that tank?

You will have to put it on one side or the other. It would be plenty of flow in your tank, especially for a softie/LPS tank

Are you saying on the back but to the side of the center brace. As in it will be off center? I wonder how that would look.

Yeah, that is what you will have to do, Part of it has to come up and over the tank. You could drill about a quarter size hole in your center brace and you would be fine putting it in the middle.

I've been running one on my 135 for about 8 months now. It moves a lot of water, but I supplement it with a very large powerhead. I really like the effect I get with both. The 2k mixes the water making a kind of natural surge. If you would like to see mine, I live in Rockwall. Just PM me.

Jason, I've never seen one in person, but I've seen threads and video. Is this something that a DIYer could build? I'm just curious, because I've never seen a single DIY thread on this topic.

And that is hard to imagine.

It is a relatively simple device, but the pieces for it make it somewhat tough to build. I think you could build the outer box, but you would need to buy the internals, about 50 bucks and find a motor that would work. I think it would take much more time to build then it would cost to just buy it. They are pretty cheap.

I've been planning to try a DIY wavemaker out of an acrylic box, a modified maxi-jet (propeller mod) and a float switch. I'll be sure to post details when I finally get around to putting the thing together. The outcome would look similar to the tunze unit and water would enter from the lower section until it fills enough to push up the float and activate the pump. No idea how well it will work, but I figured it's worth a try.

Ive been running one on my new 120 for about a week now. It really does push a lot of water. I have the 4X2 tank and the wave2k ripples the entire surface. Probably 1/4 inch waves in some parts.

I have a 4 foot tank also. Do you think it is to much flow for a Softy and LPS tank? where abouts in North Dallas are you?

No I dont think it will be too much flow. The deeper down you go, the flow seems to diminish a little. Im guessing the water pressure has something to do with that. Near surface has great flow. The flow also is spread out, opposed to conventional pheads.

Ps... I live right off of George Bush and Preston.

I live at 121 and Custer. You think i can come check out your tank one day? I have to work Saturday morning so i can't go.

i should be ordering it shortly. I have one little "project" to Finish. Hard wood floors. Then all my time and money will go to the tank. Can't wait.
