Waterproofing stand and canopy

Wondering what people are using to waterproof the inside of their stand and canopies. I'm looking for a clear sealer available locally (lowes or hd)
What would you recommend?

Also I have a furniture grade stand and canopy, can I apply something over the outside finish it already has to improve the shine and look?

Thanks in advance

Fwiw I know very little about woodworking.

I typically have used a couple coats of Kilz (primer/sealer combined), then an exterior paint, white to reflect light in canopy.

Build an acrylic drip pan for inside the stand. Don't use an anti mildew sealer I have read on rc that is a no no

Acrylic can be a bit expensive to build "drip pans" but I went to Lowes and bought a piece of the light diffuser that goes in florescent lights in offices and such, cut it to size, caulked around the edges of it, and painted it. VOILA! Waterproof. But, I painted my stand black on the outside and white on the inside. If you're wanting to keep it wood grain then a urethane is really the only way to go, and you can use it inside and out.

SPAR finish holds up better than plain poly at slight more expense. exterior paint works better if you don't mind seeing the paint.

Is spar a clear finish? Don't want outdoor colored stain or paint. I think poly will work, the stand is in great condition I just want it to look better being a main piece in our house.

Spar is very similar to poly just slightly more expensive it handles temperature changes and hold up to water much longer than poly. It is designed for outdoor use, it's thicker so takes longer to dry but the coats are thicker. either works fine spar is just a higher quality.

I used SPAR on the stand and canopy for my 20g and was happy with the results. There should be some bad pics in my build thread (link in signature).

I think I am going to use spar. Inside will be brushed on and for the outside after doing some reading will mix 50/50 with thinner and wipe it on. No brush marks this way, but will take more coats.
