im new and still yet to add water. Im still in early stages of setting up my system and planning things out. I thought of something the other day and was not really sure of the answer.

How much evaporation can I expect on a daily/weekly basis? I will have a 55 gallon with 4 T5 lights and a 250 watt MH... im considering building some fans inside my canopy, but afraid it may cause even more evaporation.

what can I realistically expect?

I lose about a gallon per day on my 90g with 6 T5s and lots of ventilation. My guess is you would lose anywhere from 0.5 to 1 gallon per day. The fans will definitely cause you to lose more water.

that will depend on a few different variables but with a 250w MH AND 4 T5's in a canopy, i would say about 5g every 3 days or so.

Maybe it is just me, I think I tend to lose more water due to evaporation in winter than in summer.

I top off manually and use a little more than 1 gallon per day in my 120g.

I have noticed the evaporation rate has been a lot higher than normal this winter. So far it has been very dry outside this year with little rain. I am using approx 30 gallons a week right now. Sure glad that I am using ato system on all our tanks.

glad its not just me, im losing a lot more now than this summer. I lose 10 gallons every 3-4 days with halides and fans. i bet you would lose 5-10 gallons or so a week.

Air is dryer in winter time so you evaporate more. Summer time is more humid so evaporation rate is less. That is why when you sweat here in Dallas during the summer it does not evaporate

I have a 90 gallon rimless and loose about a gallon a day. I have LED's so less evaporation than a metal halide. If the ambient air is low humidity like you'll see this time of year w/ a cold front (even though they havent been cold), coming through I have slightly more evaporation.

I have about .5 gallon a day with 4 pc lights and use glass tops on back half of the tank to stop water from splashing on the moon lights. Used to have full glass top but lights were to close and broke when water splashed on them. Now i have the lights with the legs on. Thinking about buying new tops.

I lose about 1.5-2.5 gallons a day and I have two 175 watt metal halides about 6" off the surface on a canopy and a fan blowing on my sump as well as 2 grow lights on my Fuge.
