[1st filter change for my ro/di unit. Do I need to run 2-5 gal thru the filters and dump that water or is this only when you replace the membrane?
Thanks]

[i would,,, I always do that when I replace any part of a RO unit filter system.... even just the fiber block or carbon...:)
Better safe than sorry,,,,

[I is most important when you replace a carbon filter because of the dust that will initial rinse off. If you have a storage tank hooked up to your RO/DI be sure to shut of the valve to it so the carbon dust doesn't go in there.]

[I run 5-10g of water through my RO unit every time I use it (I disconnect it after each use). One of these days I'll get around to setting it up so its always keeping my container full.

Invest in a TDS meter IMO :)]

[Thanks guys. I'll go with the better safe than sorry theory :)]
