Washing LS

I am going to set up a 20 gal tank that I bought. It has been up and running for 1 yr. I have a 5 gal of LS I bought on the forum. My question is do I rinse the sand and seed it with some of the sand that came with the tank ( it was very over run with algey) If I do , how do I clean the sand. I'm sure there will be more questions. Thanks Dannie
 
i wash my old sand with tap water (some people use ro/di water) then drain as much water as possible...then seed it with a cup of sand from a tank that is mature and been up for a while
 
I rinse with tap water until I am satisfied with the results and then rinse twice with some ro/di water. The water from North Texas Mun. Water Dist. is nasty! :shock:
