Wanna Whelk before I kill him?

I just picked up some live sand from a member and I told her 'hey I found a cool snail' and she said keep him. I just found out he is a whelk and I'm afraid their may be eggs in my sand so I'm debating really cleaning this sand and baking it.

Anyway, who wants him?

You don't have to kill the sandbed. Just look for them every day for a while. I remember using a flashlight late at night to find them, and every one I saw I removed. After a couple of weeks of this, I couldn't find them any more.

I don't think the eggs would be in the sand anyway, not on purpose. I'd expect them to be in a crevice of rockwork, possibly near the substrate. They are fast moving snails, so they stand out pretty easily.
