Wacky salinity readings

[I can't figure this out. A am doing my regular water change.
I mix 25 gal of ro/di. I know I have added my regular amount of instant ocean but my refractor meter reads 1.05. So I check the salinity with my old coralife swing arm meter and it reads 1.026. So I test my main tank Both the refractor meter and the corallife read 1.0250. I calibrated the refractor meter with distilled water and got the same reading. The new mix tank temp is 76 degrees and the main tank 79 degrees.

What's up, why won't the refractor meter read the new batch? :very angry:]

[Something isn't right. I've gotten false readings before, but usually wiping off the unit with a soft towel and getting a new sample gives me an accurate reading.

The temperature doesn't matter as the group buy units are ATC (automatic temperature-compenstating).]

[I have the same refractometer. Trust it, if its right with ro (0) and right with your tank, add more salt to your mix. You miscounted your scoops, you got an inconsistent batch, whatever, but I would believe it and just add salt till you get the number your looking for.

[To be on the safe side I dumped that batch and started over.

The old batch looked weird. like there was gelliton in it.
it was last of an old bag of salt.]
