Vitamin C Dosing !!

Guy i know we been discuss a little bit about this on the thread before, but after reading the Thread at Rc and the aticle i have gain interest in this Topic...SO can anyone tell me that, does Vitamin C actually help at all, or is just another ramdom. And have any of you guy have tried this method before ? Beacuse i actually want to test it out if this really work........

Here is my source

Thank you...

I have dosed vit c with great results. IME it will pretty much stop RTN in its tracks. I didn't buy any specific product. I just bought 100% natural vitamin c from the drug store, crushed it, and mixed with ro/di.

I have also been dosing potassium.

Of course I cant prove either has done anything, but I think they have.

okiee but do you actually have to stop running your skimmer and carbon to dose it. ?? Thank you Tommy said:
No, the procedure that most are following is to dose it into the skimmer itself, via the neck.

If you decide to do this, read that thread carefully. Use buffered vitamin c as it does come in a non-buffered variety and that could/will lower your ph and alk. Even when using the buffered, keep a check on your parameters.

Its not a magic bullet but I have seen enough visible evidence to give it a go. I just haven't had time to start the initial dosing phase yet. How it helps is still being debated, but from what i have read its probably giving the critters some needed boost and allows them to grow and color up. Its been mentioned that many of the amino acid supplements contain C, so giving it a solid dose of it alone seems to help same as some of them do. It was started with zoanthids and palys, but has moved into more SPS and LPS keepers trying it out.

Thank Dave, oh and what about Carbon do i have to take out my carbon when i start dosing it, because iam running Carbon just to help Sps .....

I would pull it out... if you are using a reactor, just shut it off for an hour or so. If you are using bags, consider getting the reactor if you want to dose. Keeping a wet bag around is messy ;) Its an option though and shouldn't deter.

Also, use the purest vit c you can find. GNC and VitaminShoppe have calcium absorbate (buffered vit c) in bulk powder form that is very pure. If you pull some off the shelf, it could have fillers and other things you don't want.

Okiee i just when and got some Vitamin C from GNC with buffer, and start test tomorow, i will keep your update on the process...

Please do... I'll start mine next week. More data is always a good thing. Just follow the directions in that thread carefully and monitor your parameters.

hey i got the tablet instead of power kind, and each tab is 1000mg, and im running a 90g plus 75g refug that will give me like around 140g of just water. So on my first Day i will dose mabe 1000mg, Second day will be 2000mg, and third mabe 3000mg and day 4 i will go for 4000mg and start dosing 4000mg everyday for mabe 15 day straight what do you think.....

For every 100 gallons:

5 ppm
<hr class="bbcode_rule" />
1892 mg VC
10 ppm ---- 3785 mg VC
15 ppm ---- 5677 mg VC
20 ppm ---- 7570 mg VC
25 ppm ---- 9462 mg VC
30 ppm ---- 11355 mg VC

The method to be followed in all cases is as follows:

Day 1 : concentration of 5 ppm

Day 2 : concentration of 15 ppm

Day 3 : concentration of 30 ppm

Day 4 : concentration of 50 ppm

After day 4, continue treating with a concentration of 50 ppm for 10 more days to 30 more days, depending on the severity of what you are treating for.

The total treatment period is thus 14-30 days but can last longer if need be.

In real severe cases you may need to treat for an additional 7 days or more

During this entire period you should not be using activated carbon

During this entire period you should not be using any chemical filtration media either (e.g. resins or pads, SuperChem and the like).

The skimmer needs to continue to be in operation.

Note that when you use these kind of Vitamin C concentrations it really is of utmost importance that you monitor you pH and ensure that it does not suddenly drop.

Check the pH before you add the C but check a few minutes later also. If the pH is too low add a complete buffer immediately to re-establish your alkalinity and increase the pH of the water in the tank. This is very important indeed.

It is important too, to realize that your dKH must be in the 9 to 10 range to minimize the amount of cloudiness that will develop. It the dKH is high (e.g. 12 or more) you will initially have a lot more cloudiness. This will gradually disappear though as you continue the treatment.
