vitamin c dosing, what has your experience been?

Evening,

I've got sent zoas that have been acting weird for a few months now. I'm not entirely sure what's going on because I have zoas doing great literally right next to them. So I've been reading up on vitamin c dosing and it honestly seems too good to be true so I wanted to ask if anyone has first hand experience doing this.

Thank you in advance for the advice

I knew a guy back home that swore by it for his Zoas. I didn't care about Zoas back then to care. Not sure how to get a hold of him since I deleted Facebook a while back.

Sent from pay phone in the airport.

i tried it for a few months. had a very hard time telling if it did anything. no real change in coral growth or color or Zoa budding.
on the flip side, when i got real busy at work for a few months i stopped dosing regularly, and my tank maintenance dropped way down (from multiple times a day to once or twice a week). the Zoa's loved that! acros and other hard corals, not so much.

These are the two main colonies I am trying to get to recover. Currently they are in my frag tank. So they are a little shaky the DSL and T5's weren't playing nice tonight.

Vitamin C is pointless... long long long thread on Reef Central about it a few years ago. Did it myself... noticed nothing. What typically explains the occasional improvement, people paying attention to their maintenance habits while tracking progress of a new 'miracle' cure.

If you have zoa issues.. the primary causes are alk/cal spikes/drops.... predators like sundial snails or nudis or fish nipping. Occasionally you will run across fungus, which can be treated with dips if you catch it early enough.

Pests like flatworms, those worms in a tub that spider web all over (yes that is a scientific description), speghetti worms etc can also irritate them to close up etc.

In my old zoa tank, temp seemed to trigger issues too.. as that tank had larger swings than my main system... to the tune of 4-5 degrees overnight.
