UV sterilizer

Depends on what you are trying to do with it and the flow rate. For algae control, your mileage varies dramatically. With a properly rated UV, it's very beneficial for controlling pests like flatworms, aptaisia, and ich. If it is undersized, or flow is too fast, then it's effectiveness takes a nosedive.

My personal opinion is that they are a good investment for fish only systems. For reef systems, it's a case by case basis.

My friend mbz swears by them he never had gha and only cleaned his glass once a week. He had on of the best looking tanks in dfw area before he left the hobby

Im looking for pest and algae prevention. Is one uv sterilizer better than another? i seen some on BRS for 400 bucks and i seen some the same wattage on ebay for 80 bucks. One would think that a UV bulb would do the same thing as long as the water flow was right, and gave the water long enough hang time in the light.

There is a difference some allow for more contact time than others. I used the coralife turbo twist with good success when i used one

Any free floating bacteria that goes through it, yes. But not even close enough to put a dent in your bacteria population considering how much is on your rocks, glass, media etc.
