UV Sterilizer recommendations

We're in the market for a UV sterilizer for our 75g. After thinking about it, we think the previous owner of our tank (and sand and rock) may have just let ich clear up on it's own, leaving little free-flowers to potentially get our fish. I know one of our fish had bad pop eye after being introduced and another got a belly parasite.

We feed with garlic.

Can anybody recommend a good UV sterilizer for a 75g for parasite control? We don't have problems with cloudy water, so I know low-flow rate is what we want. We're just not sure about the watts, size, or brand.

Thanks,
Catherine

I have an old UV that we used for our 90 and 120 gallons. Typically a 25 Watt unit will work well on a tank from 50 to 120 gallons.

it is too small for the 180. It needs a new bulb but is perfect working order otherwise..

We have 3 different brands of UV and have used 2 of them on our systems. Most of ours are aquaUltraViolet brand (www.aquaultraviolet.com) and they are a good quality brand if not always the cheapest. I think the bodies have lifetime warranties (not for sure tho). For your tank size, the new Advantage 2000+ http://www.aquaultraviolet.com/products/advantageplus.html is a nice cost effective unit. We just ordered it (now we have 3 different models of just the aquaultraviolet brand) and I am very pleased with it so far. Custom Aquatic (www.customaquatic.com) has them for about $76 and Marine Depot has them for about $79. The bulbs seem pretty reasonable and they do have a good UV reputation. If you have other questions or want to talk about it more, PM us and I'll give you my thoughts on all the models we have.
