UV bulb life?

How long is a UV bulb good? Specifically the flourecent ones that go in the turbotwists. Is there a local surplus lighting placve that sells these? Thanks
 
They have them for $85 dollars... but how long do they last, are they like T5 bulbls and need replacement every 6 months?
 
To be quite honest T5s can last up to and over a year. I am not really sure how long a UV will last as I do not have on my tank.

$85 seems kinda high for a bulb, but I am sure it is a special bulb that is used in them.
 
T5HOs will last 15 to 16 months if NOT overdriven ;) . now as in the lifetime of the bulb give the following a read:

The UV lamp or bulb inside the UV unit has to be replaced after about 8,000 hours use. This is every year at least in practice. This is a must because the lamp has exhausted its radiation capacity after this period.
