Using old sand?

I have a question that I just didnt know the answer for. I have a BB ten gallon running right now that I anm going to clean out and reaquascape and I was wondering if I would use the old dried sand from my 30 gallon or if it would be harmful to use old sand. I know this may be a dumb question but I have just never heard anyone talk about this before.
 
I have read here where people use old sand but always give it a good wash with RO prior to putting back in tank. IMHO you would be better off to just go with new sand on such a small tank since the cost will still be minimal. HTH
