Upgrading to a bigger tank (Sandbed Question)

Hello all! I am about to upgrade from 75g reef to a 90g reef. I will be moving everything over to the 90g. I will have the luxury of setting this new tank within a foot of the old tank. Clean, replum, fix a few issues with the refugium, and then start cycling the new tank. I have a trickle filter now, and the new (used) tank will have a refugium (a diy a friend set up) that I am going to set up a deep sand bed and macroalgae in.
Question is..Since I am on a very tight bdget...I want to move my existing sandbed over to the new tank. Old tank has been running approx 2 years. I want to put some sand in, set the rock on it, then put the rest of the sand in. I need to do this without causing problems in my old tank so I can slowly move it over. Other than the cost of running 2 systems at once, I will have time to take my time. I thank you for any information.

U can use the old sand but u will have to rinse... And rinse.... And rinse... And rinse.... U get the idea... And then take a little bit of unwashed sand and put it in the new tank to seed the washed stuff... Oh and put the rock in first then the sand. If u have a fish that likes to move sand around they might end of causing a rock slide... If u put the rock in first it will not shift if its on a stable surface I.e. the tank bottom... IMHO

ok, i don't mind putting the rock in first.. it will be easier. andI i have heard that sand compaction is not really a problem like it seemed to be a few years ago. So, that sounds like a good idea. Should I just rinse? or should I dry the sand out also? I have heard the sand soaks up phosphate, and like a sponge can only hold so much. I lnow it would be better to put in new sand, but if it is not a phosphate issue, I will use the old sand.
