UPGRADE!!!

So I have decided that I am going to upgrade to a 40g breeder tank, but can I just add all the stuff from my 29 over? Or will I have to let it cycle again??

I went from a 20 to a 55 just moved everything over saved as much water as I could and added new saltwater to fill in the rest

The only problem you might encounter would come from the sand. All I would change out would be the sand. Try to keep all of your old water and transfer all of your rocks over. Once everything is settled, add in new saltwater to fill it up. Think of it as a big water change, without taking out any of your old water.

so... A water exchange?

sorry. I meant transfer everything over including your old water. Then top off with new water until the tank is full.

I have been thinking about putting black pond foam in a tank and fusing it to rocks and stuff but I am not sure how to do so, or what the cons are... I figured egg crates, but idk. Wonder if I should do just the back, or back and sides as well... what are ya'lls Ideas?

it's going to be a reef still. but I want to make a list of the fish that I want. tell me what you guys think.
2 clowns
McCosker's Flasher Wrasse, or a carpenter. not sure which one.
6 line wrasse
tribal blenny
a mandarin if I can do one?
3-4 bangaii cardinals
Maybe a flame, Idk if I would risk it or not...
hawk fish. not sure what kind.
Chalk basslet
and maybe a vary small blue tank. I had one if a 45 tall a few months ago. He was only 1 inch and was happy and swimming all over the place. I miss that tank so much. Haven't heard from the guy that I sold it to though.

corals
-Soft-
green toadstool
Neon green palua
colt
blue finger
devils hand
shrooms
Yelllow polyps
neon green cloves

LPS
Pagoda
bubble
frogspawn
torch
trumpet
black sun coral
Galaxia

SPS
I will have my two montiporas
my birdsnest
and for the rest I am not sure what I can put in it... I really want some acros but idk... I will have my 36 inch HO t-5 fixture over it. and it has 2 bulbs. if you feel like you know something that would look good in my tank let me know as well...

I would not put that many fish in that small of a tank. And do not put a tang in that small of a tank. You are just going to kill the tang and other fish. Tangs (yellow, kole eye, purple) should not go in anything smaller then a 90, And blue tangs (including other longer bodied) nothing smaller then like 200. You will just cause stress on your fish.

Sent from inside the shark tank!

I'd hold off on adding a mandarin to your 40g breeder upgrade for at least a year, even if you can get one that is trained to eat prepared foods. They like mature systems, and plenty of rockwork. It really would be best to have a bigger tank before getting this species, but a mature tank will yield better results.

I wasn't planning on all of them being in there, just things I liked and was going to let you guys help me decide. As for the tang I know they get bigger bit I got my idea from the 4g tall at fish paradise, they have one that is about an inch and when it gets bigger they sell it. Thanks for the info though.

I will be moving all my live rock and sand from the 29g to the 40 as well. Idk if I want to rinse the sand from it though. I don't want to loose anything because that sand came from a tank that was 10 years old...

Was this not on the build thread?"]

No, this is a discussion about what you want to do. A build thread documents the actual tank, and how it progresses. I read the posts of the thread, and it seemed better suited for Reef Discussion. When you start putting the 40g breeder together, that's the perfect time to create that thread. Be sure to title it with a good specific name. [smilie=smile.gif]
