Upgrade to MH lighting

Currently I have 130w of PC in my tank, I am upgrading to 250w MH and the tank is roughly 30-36" deep.

The only thing in this tank right now is a zoa rock I found on the cheap from a LFS, which is doing fine under the PC's for now, and LR.

I have read about slowly introducing the stronger light to allow everything to acclimate to the stronger light. Since this is considerably stronger what would you guys suggest on the lighting cycles for the time being?

I was thinking of going with 4hrs of MH a day the first week, 6 hours the next week and then 8hrs the last week.

If this is too drastic please advise. Thank you for your help in advance.

you can put eggcrate on top and then put screendoor material..this will reduce the light going into the tank....

my boss would probably prefer that too. I dont think he'd be too keen on me leaving at 2pm every day to "run home and turn off my lights."

I already get quizzical looks all the time when I talk about my tank...you spent $$ on what

just put your lights on a timer..i have mine on the cheap timers with blue and red plugs that you push in when you want the lights on and off

It is really a good idea to use some type of shading material or raise the lights and gradually lower them, maybe more important than shorter light periods. The light period may be shorter, but without shading it will still be very bright for the inhabitants for that shorter period.

I can see how that would be better for the acclimation period. I mean after all, fire is hot regardless of how long you're standing in it....but it does get cooler the more distance/insulation you put between yourself and fire.

Thank you Todd
