Unorthodox cooling

Well guys I got hit by the summer heat yesterday. When I leave the house in the morning I always move my A/C to about 78. With my fans and lights the tank always maintains about 80.

Well I am not sure what I did but when I got home yesterday and thermostat was sitting on about 82 and my tank was 85 must be expotentital or something. Not the end of the world but I wanted to bring it down.

I looked in the freezer for some thing and my water bottles are gone, no ice made.

So just for your information you can bring down a 125 gallon tank with a sump that holds approx 20 gallons 4 degrees in 30 mins with 9 1lb packages of frozen hotdogs.

FYI

ROFL... that is too funny. The only problem would be in some tanks (mine included), we'd have to be filtering for little pieces of hot dog floating around after the trigger, emperor, puffers, and others figured it out.....

Good to know the heat drop to poundage ratio though too....

That is too funny!

(I hope you added a ziploc bag before putting them in the tank, though? That would prevent leaking.)

 That rocks! You can also use a gallon of water. Fill 2/3's with tap water, tape lid shut, freeze, and then put in sump. It helps. Its cheap too.

I keep some two liter drink bottles that have screw on lids in the freezer with frozen water in them and I have had to use them a few times. Nothing harmed and the tank cooled down just right. I do peel the labels off before placing them in the sump/refugium. Amazing what we can come up with when we have to. :)
