Tunze Stream ???

I'm considering replacing my 4 MJ1200s and the Red Sea Wavemaker with a Tunze Stream (probably the 6000), placed at one end of my 6ft long 135g tank. The startup chatter from the MJs is starting to grate on the family, and, after 6 yrs of this, I'm growing weary of cleaning and impeller replacement to quiet things. I have LPS, mushrooms, etc. and one struggling SPS. I don't expect to expand my SPS inventory.

I've never seen a Stream in operation in person - if placed on one end, will it provide a "reasonable" amount of circulation at the other end and without messing up my DSB?

TIA, James.

I had 2 Tunze Streams 6000 in a 6ft tank w/ a DSB on each side with no problems. If your only going to get one, you might be happier with a 6100 with the single controller.

If the only reason for spending the money on a Tunze Stream is to quiet your Maxi-jets. The modification in this thread will do that.

Thanks, Rick, for the link. Actually, I was using the chatter as an excuse. Now, my conscience will force me to fix the MJs while I wait for the Vortecs to become available.

Later, James.

FWIW, I ended up trying a Tunze Stream 6060 at the end of the tank. I thought I would get the smaller pump, and either keep a MJ or two or just wait until the Vor tecs became available.

However, after looking at the particulate distribution in the tank, there is good mixing/turbulence throughout the tank. The surface of the DSB near the center of the tank will get a little re-arranging, but not too bad. I put a modified MJ 1200 at the opposite end of the tank to ensure a dead spot doesn't develop behind some LR.

At the moment, I can't imagine two 6060s in this tank. That Tunze really moves the water. The fish initially all congregated in the far half of the tank, but now they're starting to venture into the turbulence a bit more.

FWIW, James.
