Tunze Osmolator Metering Pump

I was adding additives to my tank this AM and so sump level was low and Osmolator light showed low and the pump was not on...pump seemed to be dead...I have a spare so changed it, and the new one is working.

Are these things fixable? Is there any maintenance one should do on them? It seems this ones death coincided with me adding kalkwasser to the top-off water.

I can't see where they are openable to do do any maintenance?

If the pump can't be opened, put it in a bucket/container with vinegar/water and let is run for a bit. That should help clean it up, try to do this monthly or as you will it's necessary. :)

The pump doesn't have a plug -it comes with 2 wires that connect to a conector :? I guess at $20 ea they are considered disposable?

I have one that quit and I cleaned it all up and it started working again, but it was not reliable after that. I would think it was ok only to find my sump low and the red light on. After fighting it for a couple of weeks, I ordered a new one and haven't had any more problems. I don't think it's worth messing with. They are not that expensive to replace. I ordered an extra one so I would have a back up if this ever happens again.
Good luck with yours!

If its Tunze, try contacting Roger down in Austin, see if he can help you with the replacement. He is typically pretty good with this kind of thing..

If I remember correctly Roger has stated the pumps should not be used with kalkwasser top-off water. He said it shortens the life of the pump but nothing like has happened to you. If it is under warranty I would contact Roger. If not, you can go to the tunze website and order one. It usually only takes 2 or 3 days to get here if Roger has them in stock. If you want to use kalkwasser, Tunze makes a kalk reactor that is made to be used with the osmolator.
