Tube worm has left his tube

Woke up this morning and when the lights came on I noticed my tube worm floating across the sand on the bottom. I've experienced crowns popping off and growing back. Then I realized this was the whole thing actually wiggling around and not floating. Was able to net him up and drop him into a refugium. I then pulled his tube from the tank and kind of scooped him from behind. After a couple of minutes it actually retracted into the tube. I left the tube and worm in the refugium for now. Do you think this is ok? I've read posts about feather dusters leaving the tube, attaching to rocks and growing new tubes.

Sometimes they grow new tubes if conditions are great, most times they end up dying. In the past I never had any survive leaving the tube. Interesting that it went back into the tube. I never had any success with that.

It's in the refugium now by itself and behaving normal. It sticks it crown or dusters out and if you bump the tube it retracts. Think I'll leave it there for a week then place back in the tank if all is normal.

My tube dropped it's tube when I first got it. It had a new tube in about a week and has been doing great every since (about 6 months.) Hope things go well for you.
