I love candy cane corals because they are one of the most hardy LPS corals around.

Don't worry too much if they stay closed for a couple of days or seem overinflated for a couple of days either as this is common. Depending on your lighting I'd keep them lower in the tank and protected from any heavy water flow. Leave them alone and they should start looking normal. I've found mine typically will not look right for at least 2-3 days after they have been handled but will always return to their former glory once settled in.

Hope that helps, good luck. If you still have issues or concerns make sure to post a pic as that always helps.

That sounds like a standard fish store response. Typically as long as you do regular partial water changes (5-10% a week) with a good salt mix you can get by with little to no additives.

I've been keeping fish and corals for years and have found that additives and daily "feedings" only put more money in the pockets of the LFS without much benefit to the tank. I'm sure this advice is highly debatable but I'll stick with what works which is simple and regular water changes to keep my corals healthy.
