Trouble With Calcium Reactor - Need Your Help - SOLVED

This is just not my year for calcium reactors . . .

I had to replace the sponge recently (I guess the co2 disintegrated it) and now that I have it all together, I cannot for the life of me eliminate a leak that's coming from the top (where the top is screwed to the main cylinder). I've changed o-rings and even created a gasket to go around the perimeter, but for some reason water just leaks right through the seam. What can I do, plumbing experts out there?

I'll give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion. said:
Unfortunately, greasing the o-ring did not work either. The leaking is concentrated primarily around one screw. Everything else is fine. When I screw it tighter (because the leak is a medium trickle) it then gets worse. This has never happened before, and it's been running a little under a year (an MRC CR-1).

I've communicated with the owner of MRC and he did not offer to replace the unit (bought brand new from a member of DFWMAS a year ago). I hate to think I am stuck with this and need to buy another one.

I think that I may have the came unit you have from MRC. CR-1. I know that there is an issue with one of the screws.

I just tighten it. What type pump are you running off the unit? I just run a maxijet 1200.

That's basically the same issue I had with MRC's calcium reactor. Other then that, it's been a good reactor. One option is to keep the reactor in the sump if you can. that way you need not worry about the leakage.

I kinda did the opposite. I did not screw the screws ultra tight, and for some reason, it has not leaked. I guess when it was screwed too tightly the inside pressure forced water out.

Correct. Try screwing each screw snugly, then turn on the reactor. Start tightening screws criss-cross until all are evenly screwed down, rather than trying to force it super tight at every screwed point.
