Tropic Eden Sand

Does anyone know if this is mailorder only or if someone carries it locally? I dont want to drive too far for it, and dont want to pay a markup that makes it more expensive than if I had it shipped. I knew I should of bought some from Marc when he had it for sale, but I really thought I already had enough.

Do people still use the HD "tropical playsand" that we all used back in the day? Not sure if it is still available, but that might be an alternative.

I think that some stores carry it locally ... you can always order it through premiumaquatics.com ... if you are over $175 it is free shipping ... otherwise, it is just $8 shipping ... for me, that was a heck of a deal

What size flakes are you looking for? I'm searching for some as well, and I want some that is not super fine, but a bit chunkier or flaky. I guess mini-flakes would be it in the Tropic Eden brand.

I'm following along, as I'd like to find some locally.

I would like sugar sized but would do miniflakes if local. I called rift 2 reef and they didn't carry it.

i have 2 bags of the sugar fine sand from florida for sale that marc was selling a while back if you want it

PM Sent.

On the tropical play sand/southdown, Im sure that still works, but I was looking for a specific grain size that is quite a bit smaller. Plus, it seems like even though the grain is so small, the grain is more dense, and is not blown around as much.

I'm looking for this sand too, mini-flakes and reeflakes. Maybe we should do some sort of group buy on it from premium aquatics. I would need 120-150 lbs. We could easily get to $175.

Caribsea seaflor special sand is good sand and works great in high flow tanks as it won't cause a sand storm

Yup,

Pretty sure Frank's Tank's has some at a good price. I replaced my sugar fine sand from Florida with some of this so that it wouldn't blow around with the super high flow in my tank.

Cheers,

Frank sells CaribSea for sure, but not Tropic Eden. When I talked with the mfg, I was slightly interested in selling it from my site but the overall response I got to a small informal poll here was that everyone liked getting whatever they could find at rockbottom pricing. Since sand is heavy and shipping is costly, it didn't make sense for me to carry it after all. So like you, I go to PremiumAquatics when I need some.

The type in my reef is Reeflakes, and it is doing quite well in front of two MP60w ES pumps. I chose this grade because I didn't want my sandbed blowing around.

If you do a group buy, you'll want to get it shipped by pallet to a business. Otherwise, ordering it to your homes if you hit the $175 minimum is a pretty good deal, tough to beat.

Well I cant host a group buy, since I have failed to pony up $20 measly dollars. I think I might have to do that sooner rather than later - probably will depend on if I win anything in the raffle (Hey maybe that could be a raffle prize? Free membership for a year? and if you are already a member, it just extends it out for a year?)

If anyone is going to purchase some in the next couple of days, I will be getting two bags, so that could combine for the free shipping at Premium Aquatics. Although if you live far far away, I would have to pass as gas is shooting through the roof because of SPECULATION about things that havent happened yet.

Well I am going to buy some TE sand from Premium Aquatics. I live in Richardson, close to the corner of PGBT and 75. If anyone wants to go in on some sand with me, please let me know. I won't do a groupbuy as there isn't much to gain except free shipping and I'm buying sand and a reeflo so I'll be over the $175 requirement. Let me know if anyone wants to tag along my order. I'm going to make it tonight. Thanks,

I'm sure you will take this the wrong way, but it bears saying it anyway: You need to pony up the membership dues, period. You plan to save on free shipping, so the annual dues would be covered. Hoping to win it for free - geeze. I mean, seriously? Support the organization you turn to for help. We have.

If it is ONLY "$20 measly dollars" then why is it such a big deal... Never understood this one. What can you buy for your tank that is more helpful and readily available that this site for less??

So confused here...
