Is my Mp40 causing the tissue loss of my GBN? I have dipped and qted all coral. All parameters are stable.
Alk: 9
Mag: 1350
Calc: 440
Phos: .00
Nitrates: 5
pH: 8.09
Temp: 77.5 stable

Lighting is 2 Radions at 60%
Flow: 2 mp40 of reef crest 70%

Alk is a little low for your mag and cal being that high. I keep mine alk at 12 mag 1350 and cal 450

Btw I run diy leds 100% and 2 wp40s at 80% and 50% mixed flow. One is blowing right at a GBN and no issues at all.

I can't seem to keep my alk up for some reason. It always wants to be low. Same with the ph.

Top off with alk and slow down on cal dosing just keep up on it daily. Or let mag and cal come down only dosing alk till it evens out.

Try and keep mag around 1250-1350 with the following levels.

370 ppm to 1.4 dKH
380 ppm to 2.8 dKH
390 ppm to 4.2 dKH
400 ppm to 5.6 dKH
410 ppm to 7 dKH (natural seawater)
420 ppm to 8.4 dKH
430 ppm to 9.8 dKH
440 ppm to 11.2 dKH
450 ppm to 12.6 dKH
460 ppm to 14 dKH.

I like mine higher then most people like. Believe most keep it close to 9 in home systems.

Hookem, Your parameters look fine in my personal opinion. I have two Green Birds nests that are fine under the following parameters:

Temp-78
KH-7.0
Ca-380-400
Mg-1380
PO4-0.02
NO3-undetectable
K+ 440
I2-0.06

Now, I'm in full understanding that every tank is different. But im also realizing that sometimes corals just don't like to sit in certain places. I move mine around all the time. Sometimes they like it, sometimes not so much. Sometimes, Ill frag a coral and put one high and one low, just to see what happens. You may just want to move it and see, specially if everything else is doing good. I run an MP60 on my 125 on one side at about 50% and think the tank likes it. Wish you the best sir. -GROD

Hookem, another thing i forgot to mention above is about your parameters. If your having issues with stability, as you mentioned above with KH, then just figure out your depletion rates and play with them. As soon as you figure out your depletion rates, you will know how fast your losing the parameter thus also know how much product you need to keep it where ever you feel comfortable with it. If you need help w/ that please ask. Wish you the best. -GROD

Here is a pic of my pump, all im trying to show here is the position, its above half way if u will, and aft, sorry for the pic but i have a crappy phone and it takes crappy pics

Thanks Grod.

What I think I am gonna try is moving mine more forward. Its pointed directly at the colony. I thought about moving it aft, but then it would be blasting right at the over flow.

My experience with birdsnests is gentle indirect flow and they flourish, getting nice thick branches. The higher flow they will thin out growth and will withdraw if its too high. Ive kept em under high and low light so lighting is flexible.

They are also very prone to alk swings, so if you dip too low or go too high they will react. Like SPS, the tips and growth areas show it first, then the base etc....

It's receding from the base. It doesn't look like STN to me. I think I figure out that my stupid Flame Angel is nipping. Makes me mad cause it just started recently. He had been a model citizen when my Yellow Tang was in there. Unfortunately, I found him mysteriously dead one morning. Couldn't figure that out. Then 2 days ago one of my Da Vinci Clowns disappeared. Later found him in the overflow. While I was watching the tank last night, I noticed him nipping at the GBN. The when light went out, he was chasing my clowns around. Now for the hard part, try a trap or disassemble?

Anyone got a trap!?!?
