Too many bristle worms - How to get rid of some

[Other than stop feeding so much, any recommendations on reducing the booming population of bristle worms?

I've heard that arabian pseudochromis will eat them and coral banded shrimp. Or just a trap?

What's worked for you?]

[My Bicolor Psuedochromis tore em up. He controlled the population nicely and was a model citizen in my 55 gal.Bristleworms are beneficial but do become a nuisance in large populations like deer do :) Thats the only way Ive ever controlled them but hopefully some of the old salts will chime in.

[I have an arrow crab that eats them. Some on this board will argue that they are not necessarily reef safe, but he behaves himself.

I think he's cool to watch as he tears apart worms and pods for lunch. :devil2:]

[Arrow Crabs, Coral Banded Shrimp, and Long Nosed Hawkfish all do the job adequately.]

[Never had any luck with any of those Marc.
Bait a trap seems to work the best. Cheap container with a rock to hold it on the bottom of the tank.

[Looks like he used a phillips head screw driver from the impressions it left. Nice , cheap , and effective trap!

[Hey, cool trap - why couldn't I think of that!

I think I'll also look for a pseudo chromis in the future too.

Thanks]

[X marks in the top were make with a sharpe knife.
Put in a frozen cube of brine shrimp just before bed time.
Put in an area I have seen the worms.
This was the 3rd day in a row I used it. A little more then this on the first 2 days with bigger worms.

The cost was around $1. and a spare rock to keep it located on the bottom. ???]

[Hrmm, just ran out of frozen brine tonight, maybe I'll try plankton, or krill or one of the many frozen treats that my fish don't seem to care much for. :glare:]

[Hey,

If all y'all are just going to throw the bristle worms down the drain I could use a few for my tank.

[I would never throw perfectly good bristleworms down the drain! I was just gonna toss em in the other tank, but if you need some you are welcome to them. I didnt catch any last night, but I am trying again tonight. Ill let you know when I have some and I can keep them in the dish until we can meet up.]

[make sure your cuts in the lid are not really big.
I have seen some of the larger worms get back out but hey 99% is not that bad. :rasp:]
