I won one of those tomato clowns at last meeting's raffle. Its color then was a bright orange and at about 1-1.5" sized. I put it into my nano tank.
Last week, I finally got around to moving a recently split LTA anemone from my big tank into the nano. It took almost 2 hours before the clown started hosting in it. The clown seems to be very happy, rarely leaving the anemone.
We noticed that it has now changed its color. The body is no longer bright orange, now a darker, blackish orange very much like the Fuji clowns I see at some LFS.
Couldn't find any explaination nor acknowledgement of such color changes in my clown book. So I wonder, if this is normal? Is the color change due to some chemistry between the clown's body surface and the anenome's tentacles? or maybe due to mood or psychological change in the fish?
