Toadstool Leather "streamers"??

So, I have had toadstools in the past and can't believe I never witnessed this Phenomenon. I now have a small Toadstool in my 29L nano and the cap is about the size of a half dollar. I have noticed for the past two nights that is spends the whole night "fishing". The first night, I really just thought it was shedding it's wax coating like my Finger Leather does. Wrong...It is casting out these (appr, 6 or so) 1'+ long sweepers smaller, 1/2" tendrils all along it, into the water around it. It leaves them out there for a few seconds and then reels them back in rather quickly. It is obviously a feeding technique but I gotta tell you, it is both fascinating and creepy at the same time... Thing is, it does this ALL NIGHT LONG till the lights come on in the morning. It coordinates about 6 of these lines all at one time and for some reason, they never become entangled in each other.

There really is a question here, are these "fishing lines" harmful to any of my other corals? I have only had it for a couple days, but haven't noticed any harm yet. If so, I must find a new home for it since there is literally no place in my 30" tank that it cannot reach.

The after hours party in my tank never ceases to amaze and mesmerize me!!

Thanks
Howard

These are actually flatworm like organisms living on top of your toadstool, they are called ctenophores.

From what I remember each one has two tentacles, so it looks like you might have three living on your coral so far.

They are harmless for the most part, but I would recommend a coral dip if you notice any irritation.

Best regards,
