Is 2 # 4 korallias, a # 3 and two maxi jet 900s too much flow for a 55 gallon? It is a BB with 70 lbs of live rock with mostly sps, some lps, and three clams. I run a cpr skimmer and two 250 watt 14k hamilton single ended bulbs.
that seems a bit much - looks like 3500-4000 gph turnover
do you have a sump?
what you're looking for is random movement that's enough to keep nutrients flowing to the coral and to take wastes and detriuos away. You also want air exchange that happens through surface aggitation, overflows and sump flow.
The 2 # 4s may be plenty. Just keep them pointed high and somewhat toward each other to cause turbidity (rabdom flows) and surface aggitation.
no mater how many you have, just don't point them directly at a coral
I do not have a sump/fuge on this setup. So that is all the flow.
The maxi jets are in the back corners the #3 is on the pointed towards the front glass. And a # 4 on each side glass.[/quote]
