Tiger Pistol??

I recently purchase about a 2" Tiger Pistol and love the lil bugger. I always enjoy seeing his tunnels he has dug and love hearing him popping his claw, but now I am not sure but haven't seen any of my nassarius snails lately, one peppermint shrimp and a few hermits! Could he be feasting off them? He doesn?t come out to feed when I feed them. I really notice this when on of my chromis has a gash on his side. So my question is what do he eat and won't eat. I don't want to evict him, but can't keep loosing my cleaning crew or other tenants (sorry I see myself as a landlord?LOL)

more than likely that is your problem. they are opportunistic and they will eat whatever they can get their claws on.

DANG! :? I wanted one for so long but can't keep buy cleaning crew and other tenants! Guess I can try sinking pellets or Krill or squid and hope he feeds on them. I want cleaner shrimps and more fish but don't want them end up pistol food. I kinda knew this was a risk but have a good buddy that has one to but leaves his shrimp and cleaning crew alone.

he would love for you to get a cleaner shrimp ;)

Holy crap... Just saw this... I have 2 cleaner shrimp, 1 fire shirmp, a harlequin, and a tiger pistol. I haven't seen the pistol, but I can hear him from time to time. Am I going to lose some of my shrimp????

I have a tiger pistol and have not suffered any loses on hermits and snails. I usually just put some pellets near his cave every few days.

candy cane pistol?? I honestly think all pistol shrimp will attack anything small that comes near it.

I just put a red banded in my tank a week ago... hope I dont start losing CUC members hes only about half an inch long right now though so hopefully not

I have had a red banded pistol shrimp for about 3 months, and he never bothers my other invertebrates. He is paired with a Randall's goby, so that might be the difference. I have seen him snap at snails that get too close to the mouth of his burrow, but then they just keep going.

First pistol shrimp was fire engine red with white dots. "He" was about the size of my index finger. Although he shared the same den as my yellow watchman goby and never harmed the goby, I think he bullied his way around. Firefish constantly had shredded tail fins. He ate a pair of Bangaii Cardinals while they were still adapting to their new environment, 3 days after introducing them into the tank they had decided to hide in the back bottom corner of the tank. I can see him reeling them in by their long flowing fins...

Took the octopus 2 weeks to catch him. Pesky little sucker.

Is it paired with a goby? While they are opportunistic animals, my experience with them says that when paired with a goby they are less opportunistic. The relationship between the two involves the goby providing food to the shrimp (again, from my personal experience) during feedings. I've seen my tiger pistol "run off" (bulldoze away from the entrance) nassarius snails that approach its tunnel when food is in the water. It has also run off my cleaner shrimp, but never attacked or killed anything.

We have had a candy striped pistol for over a year now & it hasn't killed anything...even things I wish it would! Shrimp, hermits, and snails all poke around in his burrow opening & he doesn't even snap at them. Well, except the conch one day, popped it on the nose when it stuck it in the hole LOL. Candy striped pistols stay small. That said, I wouldn't put a tiger in this particular tank (55 gallon)...actually probably not even in the 140 when it's up.
