The Survivor

When the wife's anemone tank cracked and drained last week, her GTBA looked like a puddle of slime hanging off the rock. Six days later and after being in the hospital tank it was put in the wife's new 36G. Wednesday we bought a pair of maroon clowns for the tank. The larger clown (female) hosted the GTBA with four hours. :D It was pretty cool to watch as her previous false clown would not host, and just didn't seem interested...How Rude!

Having survived the tank fiasco and hosting a new maroon clown, Peggy's GTBA was looking good. However, this morning (3:30AM) I found it had gotten sucked into the powerhead even though there was a safety tube on the intake! I had to call my wife at work and tell her so she wouldn't be looking everywhere in the tank for it at 7:30AM when she got home from work.

The hardest part however was the cleanup, most of the tentacles had been chewed up and blown out of the powerhead all over the bottom of the tank and cleaning the intake tube and the powerhead itself was really nasty.

I felt sorry for the clown, even though I know fish don't have emotions, it just kept rubbing up against the GTBA as it was wrapped around the intake tube of the powerhead lifeless.

Hey, who says fish don?t have emotions. My Maroon (Little Elvis) pouts if I change channels on the TV while he is watching Nemo.

Sorry for your loss. Power head intakes can be treacherous even with the safety tubes. I?m always prying snails out of mine.

Now the clown is trying to host a mushroon that was in the same area of the tank. He just keeps rubbing it all the time. Swims off for a while then comes back and loves onthe mushroom..

Makes sense, not that clowns are known for being picky about what they'll host in (I've heard breeders will use (CLEAN!) small mop heads, for instance), but mushrooms are in the anemone family, I believe...

When I first got Little Elvis he was very small. He always hosted the powerhead and outlets from the skimmer and/or power filter all up near the surface in one corner of the tank. I was always worried about him either jumping out through the small opening I had cut in the glass top for the equipment there or getting sucked into one of the intakes. I didn?t have enough light then for a nem, so I bought a big Frogspawn and put it on a rock under that corner and he moved in right away, love at first sight. Since then the Frogspawn has spread out and dominates that lower corner of the tank and nothing will get him out of it. I think the LPS is stinging him, irritating his skin somewhat, but he wallows in it constantly. I've got a big hammer on the other side of the tank, but he won't go near it. Now that I have better lights I?ve considered buying a nem just to get him out of the coral, but I bet he would stay in his Frogspawn condo even if I had a SRBTA that covered the entire reef.
