The Carnation Tree Coral or Dendronephthya Carnation

I was wondering if any one else had one?

I found these at a LFS and I took them home. I have 3 that are attached to a rock. one is small the other 2 are larger...

they are very nice...

My concern is this... sometimes day or night they actually lean over and shrink. Now in most cases they are standing strait up and it loois like new growth is like a white fiberglass .. very interesting...

I wa just wondering if there are any more of these out there and if any one has any more info other then what I have found below..

My parms are dead on except temp which can be reduced some it sets about 78 which is a little high...

I gathered that...

I have had mine for only a week and it is growing.. My conern really is I can find no documents on how these are taken care of..

There is very small evidence of how to keep them. What you are seeing when they shrink is them expelling water from their skeleton. they absorb water take all the nutrients and then deflate. two things you need to canstantly feed are cyclops and phyto. Some people turn off skimmer and main pumps for a few hors after feeding. If you look on RC they have a large thread that talks about care of these corals. Also one other thing try to place the corals under a rock to let it hang. somehow they have better survival chances if they hang upside down.

agree with ddier on moving coral to hanging position. I have gone through several of these over the years and dont even attempt them any more.. :?

O what good news..
I am so excited ..

I just PAID $40 for something that no one can keep...

Man!

Which also means I would not sale them to anyone who would not be ale to keep them because that would not be fare...

Early Christmas present my wife bought me because I liked them at the LFS...

Well i suppose the only thing left to do is my best and see how long i can keep the 3 frags alive...

what seems to be the going rate until they are Dead?

maybe some Santa majic will help..

maybe I can trade them for a nice bubble coral...
wonder if anyone would be willing or is able to care for them so they live...

Hi,

You should be able to take them back to the lfs and trade them in for store credit. You may take a small loss.......I would hurry.

Cheers,

I have kept them for about 9-10 mo. like I said just make sure you feed at night. feed when they are fully extended. you can use a flashlight, to see when that happens

Call True Percula and try to talk with the person who is in charge of their non photosynthetic tank.

They have a display tank in the back of the store that has a lot of carnation corals and other non-photosynthetic corals. They can hopefully give you some information about the type of food they feed.

Their tank is skimmerless and has a deep sand bed.
