Test Results on Commercial "Live" Phytoplankton Products

Just wanted to let everyone know about a great opportunity we recently had. Everyone in the "Live" Phytoplankton industry claims their product is the best. Wanting to provide the best product to our customers while educating ourselves at the same time we sent 4 samples overnight down to Galveston last week.

The testing is being conducted by Texas A&M University at Galveston- Phytoplankton Research Lab.

The formal test results along with detailed pictures taken under microscope should be posted within the next week. We are also sending down Reef Nutrition's Phyto-Feast Live as a supplemental product to be analyzed.

We bought new products with fresh harvest dates. The 4 samples of products we sent were:

PhycoPure
DT's Premium Reef Blend
DT's Nanochloropus Single Strain
Phyto Lady's Phytoplankton

I do have a few notes regarding the results after talking with them directly and let me say- You guys might be very surprised when it comes to the results. So no one can call foul/bias for me posting the results- The results will be posted by Texas A&M staff on both DFWMAS, MARSH and possibly ReefCentral.
 
Very cool. I put some phycopure under my microscope this weekend. Looked like at least 4 different kinds of microalgae including one that was _very_ motile.

Any idea when these results will be posted? I need to go buy some phyto and was waiting to see how this turned out.

Can you just tell me which one you would buy if you were going to the store right now? :wink:

aslso - is price included in the comparison? some products are 3x the price of others... so I would "expect" them to be 3x better...
 
Odds are there will be a multiple week wait on this study. Time to hurry up and wait. :)

Yes. You guys have to remember they are doing this for free and we just happened to be in the right place at the right time. I spoke with them on Monday and they are finalizing everything now. We should see it any day now! I'm having a hard time waiting too so I feel your pain! ;)

I've gotten some more detailed reports from A&M. For all those who've made phone calls, sent PM's, and emails, and to everyone else- thank you for your patience!!

The staff who are writing the report are doing so between working full time jobs and taking summer classes so they are a bit overwhelmed.

Just want to let you know there will be both pictures AND videos!
