Test Kits

Just wondering is there any test kits that are actually kits, where they have all the major tests you need? If so what do you recommend? If not what would you recommend getting. I mainly have softies but I want to get into keeping LPS also.

I know API makes a couple different "master kits" with different options, but most people prefer Red Sea for mag

Your best bet is to get the various kits you need, rather than an all inclusive group.

ALK, mag, CA, pho4. For a tank that has been up for six months or more this should do. A LSF can occasionally test the rest. I like Salifert kits for ease of use. Some tests like iodine and Sra+ are expensive and tricky. IMO not worth the $. Good luck.

Red Sea makes a kit for Mag cal and alk. That and the API kit for ph nitrate nitrite and..... Crap I can't remember the 4th.

I like the red sea kits. Red Sea Reef Foundation Pro Multi, Red Sea Algae Control Multi, and Red Sea Pro Colors Multi kits should pretty much cover anything you're going to want to test for. Get a seachem ammonia alarm to go in the sump as an early warning system too.

Thanks, also thanks to you Marc for the thread. It answered my next question. I had some old API test kits wasn't sure if they were still good to use. Now I know I just need to start over with some new ones.

API doesn't have the right window of results to test for a coral tank, works great for calcium and alk but their phosphate/nitrate tests start at the high levels of what we want to check for.
