Temp - Fans

Question - how much can a fan help the temp of a tank?

I'm probably going to put one on my sump... was wondering what was to be expected.

Right now temp seems to be holding around 78 - 79 degrees, but I'm not running the MH yet.

RK2 Setting

Also - I set my temp parameters on my RK2. Is this acceptable?

ON - 77.8
OFF - 78.8

Since I got a powerful honeywell fan to put over my sump, I've had no need of a chiller.

I have my heaters set to turn on at 78.5 and turn off at 80.5.

The fan turns on at 81, off at 80.2.

My old system had 4 MH bulbs about 2 inches off the water... I.E. it woulda gotten HOT...

I had 2 fans blowing over the sump, and 8 PC fans in the canopy circulating air over the water surface (4 blowing in, 4 pulling air out).

I had a chiller as a backup/insurance policy, it VERY rarely EVER turned on...

I have a similar setup, but I got better cooling results and less evaporation from letting the big fan blow across the center brace, venting the halide heat trapped under the canopy.

My question: Is your setup more energy efficient than mine? It looks like it might be.

Mine is something like:
(DEFAULT) HEATERS OFF
79.5 FAN ON
MAX CHANGE 15 minutes FAN ON

That way the heater maintains a temp of a little over 78 at night (due to MAX CHANGE). Is it more energy efficient to run the heat all the way up to 79 or 80 degrees at night when the temp drops below 78? (i.e. fewer, longer runs instead of many shorter ones).
