TEK lighting questions

Does anyone have a TEK light?
i am planning on putting one on a 50 Tub. (40 breeder but taller)
i want to get the 6 bulb fixture. i always thought the TEK lights were good, but there are a lot of people that are saying they are just OK? i dont have the budget for the Elite or the IceCap ones, or the ATI fixtures.
what are your thoughts of the light. good bad and ugly responses are welcome.


also, for the T-5 users, what combo would you use. (the tank will probably be mostly SPS and i have a few clams that will go in as well.
 
When I had a 75g I had the tek 48 inch 6 bulb and it was great. I was able to keep everything SPS clam and all.
If you can save more money and buy the elite I would. They have fans and get better par.
 
I have a normal Tek T5 lighting system that i've been running for 3 years. I've kept everything in it. The colors aren't as great on my SPS as they would be with halides, but I like it because I don't have to run a chiller. I just run a fan on my sump.

BTW. how is the skimmer working out for you?
 
Cranked it up and gave it a test run. Great foam, tons of bubbles. I like it. I piled it off because the 75 isn't ready, but I couldn't resist. I ran It external but the o-ring on the pump cover is leaking so I'm going to get a replacement.
I'm super happy with it though.

Good. Sorry about the o-ring. I've never replaced anything on the skimmer. So I guess when I was disassembling it it may have cracked.

You will be happy with the TEK lighting. I was, i'm probably going to upgrad to the new version soon.

Make sure you go with ATI bulbs! They put out more PAR than any other bulb... It depends what color you would like. I would go with 4 ATI blue+, 1 aquablue special, and 1 KZ Fiji Purple. That should give you a nice 20k look... If that's too blue, you could replace one blue+ with the aquablue special. Adding a 6500k daylight bulb might not be worth it because ATI bulbs can almost match the PAR.

me i would do
3 ati attinics
2 ati blue plus
1 uvl 75/25
that way you can get the dusk to dawn affect
