Tank Viewing Height

I tried searching but didn't find any set height suggestions. So my question is what is the optimal tank height? Should the bottom be at 36", 42" or higher?
 
I would definately say higher than 36" unless you have a tall tank.
Mine sits at 42" and the middle of the tank is basically eye level. I've had dozens of tanks and stands, and I really enjoy looking at the tank when it's at eye level.

I have different tanks at different heights. It depends on if I will be viewing from my couch or seated at the dining room table. There is quite a difference. I agree that the best height is eye level, it just depends where your eye is level.
 
Yeah I agree. My tank is in the living room and my stand is at 34", so from the couch that is probably as high as I want to go for my viewing height. You will need to asses where you will be viewing the tank from and make a personal decission. That would be your best bet. Keep in mind I think most stands are around 32" I think, that will give you room for your equipment, etc. Dont know if you want to go any lower than that, because that is on the low side for some equipment.
 
Nothing's worse than a pain in the back while trying to see your critters! I built a stand to accomadate two identical tanks side by side but stagared, the first of which is 44'' at the base and the upper is 55'' high!! I get tons of compliments!
