While I was away from home working my main return pump (Mag 5) overheated and stopped. I had someone watching the tank but he did not notice that the pump had stopped. I am guessing a few days passed and he noticed all my fish were dead. There was nothing to be done since I was still away.
When I returned I rigged up another pump and a plastic hose trying to get circulation going again to see if all the coral was dead also. When I awoke, the tube had come off the pump so the pump was acting like a fountain on my refinished hardwood floor and the tube in the aquarium had siphoned out at least 10 gallons that flooded my living room went down the hall and into my linen closet.
By the time I had completely taken down my entire system I noticed my wood floors were now warped and stained from the event.
I have only myself to blame and am sad at losing the great group of fish I had, not to mention the nice way I finally got the rocks arranged. The rocks, chaeto, and what might be coral are in holding tanks to wait and see.
What can go wrong, does go wrong, and causes the most damage possible.
