Tank Build....updated pictures...

Ok its been a long time but the tank is finally coming together I barrowed some suction cups from Tri and had a friend over to help!! and here it is!!!!

I have to say its breath taking!! well to me anyway !!!

i placed foam board under the tank so as to not have stress on the bottom of the tank. so still need to add the trim then plumb and its ready to add sand water and rock!!...
OH yeah and my lights!!

let me know what you think!!!!

its a 160G 50L x 24D x 31T

Thanks Tri...its nothing compared to yours...mine only takes up 4ft of wall LOL...

if i had your tank id need snokel gear to set it up :)

I can bring your cups back tomorrow or monday which ever is good for you!!

George, I hope you keep on taking pictures and update this tread. I would love to watch the progress on your tank.

You can drop off the suction cups anytime on Monday.

Very nice. Can't wait to see what you do next.

The tank was rebuilt by bulldogger and i tore apart a old stand and rebuilt it i I hate how the doors of our 90G freshwater tank are always in the way so i built this one so that wouldnt be a issue here is a picture of that. The front doors are one unit and lift off and out of the way food and other things required will be in another cabinet in this room.

I got my RODI unit from Marc and i mounted that on a saw horse so it would be protable atleast for the time being. With moving the 90G fresh and filling the 160G salt i wanted to be able to use the waste water to water the plants so on a saw horse i can set it anywhere in the yard and water... I also added a longer hose on the waste output. Once its filled the first time I will likely mount it on the wall behind in the tank in the garage and run a line into the sump.... Assuming im allowed to drill a hole in the wall LOL!!!

Today i think is trim lights and plumbing.. I found out my christmas present is live rock!!!! WooHoo!!!

Ok i forgot i asked David to drill the holes a little large incase i ever wanted to do sps. He said it would be a good idea because they require more water flow. I currently only want to do softies, so can someone tell me what i need to take the 2.5" holes that in my tank down to bulkhead size David had told me i think in a email but I am unable to find it... And I am no plumber!!!
HELP!!!!!

Thanks guys...

going to work on lighting while i wait on responces!!

ok crisis over!! I went to home depot and spent about an hour locating all the parts i needed to reduce it so its all good now...

and I went to install my bulbs that were supposed to be for a 48" tank...and they are about 2" to short!!! so have to go back tomorrow and get the right size bulbs!!

but my moon lights are working!!!

Ah, progress, sweet progress!

So, were the holes in the glass 2.5", or were the bulkheads 2.5"? 'cause if the holes in the glass were 2.5", trying to figure out what you coulda gotten at Home Depot that woulda reduced it down for the mortal sized bulkheads to fit...

Serk .... just nod your head and slowly back away... LOL

a 2" male coupling fits with the tiniest of space around the threads and seals up good from what i can tell guess ill find out for sure once i add water!! :)

here are the pictures so far MINUS the LIGHT BULBS!!!!! ugh so mad about that LOL i wanted light tonight!!! anyway got the lights wired and the moonlights in. I also got trim on just needs to be sanded and repainted on the corners. I finally got the bulkheads in so making some good progress.
Plus we had to move the 90G freshwater from halfway across the house to its new location across from the 160G saltwater. its going to be a fish lounge more or less, and yes that light fixture goes!!!!! I am installing something a little more modern and higher, after that bring in the leather couch and chair.

In picture one is the 90G freshwater, picture two is a shot of the VHO fixtures and moonlights, picture three is of the trim work.

here is where the tanks are sorry the house is a mess in the middle of having the house painted!!! OMG its a mess!!!! not one room in the house is really livable!!! Thank God they are going to be done Tomorrow, its been two weeks!!

Err, bad bad juju.. if you're using a 2" mpt (male pipe threads) on one side and a fpt (female pipe threads) on the other, you're going to have a leak. Pipe threads are tapered so that the closer they get together, the inside seals up. _Not_ the outside.. the outside is just molded, not milled in any way for a mating surface. I'd try Elliots or Dickison Bros tomorrow, and look for a sch 80 bulkhead that matches the hole.

Ok I picked up some bulkheads from Elliotts today...SCH80 for a 2.5" hole. They came with rubber washers, do i use those?? are they safe in the tank??? so ill put those in tonight! Thanks Ashlar!! but it cost me 4 times as much LOL!!!

Went back to the store and go the correct bulbs they gave me the wrong ones because they are all in the same boxes and not labeled...oh well..

bought a bucket of salt i like tropic marine it has always been good to me so im going with that.

Thank you everyone for your help...I have posted a buy add on the board for live rock and live sand....so if anyone has any to sell let me know...

Thank you

Be sure to put the rubber washer on the water side and you should be good. I'm guessing a 2.5 (should be 2 5/8) is a 1.5" bulkhead so your good there.

hey guys I was looking for a sand calculator and Matt delivered...

here is one...just incase anyone else is needing it.

George, as Kieth mentioned the rubber gasket goes on the inside (wet) side, but put a thin coat of vaseline on both sides of the gasket. That'll let you tighten it down well without pinching the gasket and causing a leak.
