[I have had three Yellow tangs for a year and a half. They chase each other around every ones and awhile with no harm until last night. When I awoke this morning one was missing. I looked around and found it hiding in its home. The other two will not let it out. If he tries to come out the chase him back. The poor guy or gal is petrified. I tried chasing the other two away but I can't stay on them 24 / 7. I can't catch them so does anyone have any ideas. I fear if this keeps up I will soon have only two tangs]
 
[Ron, you can try to catch and quarantine the other 2 until the 3rd feels secure again. Perhaps the 3rd has gotten ill and weak enough for the other 2 to realize its an easy victim.

I feel for you because I have 3 tangs in my tank. The yellow is the big bully. It harassed my copperbanded for 2 weeks before it quit. the regal is my most peaceful. the kole used to be pretty peaceful, minding his own business. But since I got a lawnmower blenny late last year, its realized that they're competing for the same natural food (algae). the kole now seems to be a bit more territorial, doing the occasion chase of the blenny. While I'm still in a good mood, I'm not going to rant about how they're such pigs when it comes to eating....

[I agree with howard, I believe they have found a weekness in 3rd guy out. Is it possible the other two have become a mated pair as that it may be odd woman out??? Yes, that was a question as it is an unresearched thought!]
 
[I think its decreasing grazing area. In the past year I have added lots of corals. The tangs get fed brine, Nick food or formula one in the mornings and flake food in the afternoon. But the tangs are constantly grazing on green algae all day. As the corals have taken alot of rock space maybe the two other feel they have to do away with the weakest?

The two tangs still won't let the other out of his home. I have target fed him with a baster and he still looks healthy.

[If its a food issue, you want to buy some Nori (seaweed) at the local Asian food market. Buy the ones marked unseasoned, not roasted. Nori from the Asian markets are very cheap. I buy shredded nori in 1.5oz packages for about $1.80. The tangs love it. Maybe this'll get the 2 off of the 3rd.]
