T5 Users

Ok I noticed that most of the DFW area shops do not carry T5 bulbs so I assume they are not that popular around here.
I am just wondering are there any T5 users here that have found an actinic bulb they are happy with. Mine came with catalina aquarium bulbs and I swithced the MH to reeflux. Now I am looking for a good switch out on the actinic

HI
I have been using t-5 for a couple of years now and have tried a couple of different combination of colors I have settled on a 65k,11k, and 2 blue+ from reefgeek.com. And no they are not very popular. Every one seems to be set on halides HTH

I've got a 6-bulb TEK fixture that will be on my 115 when it's up and running. It too, will be a mixture of GE Sun 6500, 10k Aquablues and blue+ bulbs. Probably from reefgeek.com as well. The T5HO actinics are not up to par with the VHO yet, but there are supposed to be some in the making.

Yeah I guess the question is to wait on URI or go ahead and by some blue + or actinic + bulbs from reefgeek

anyone running those have pics I could take a peek at?

I believe the only company making a true actinic t-5 is ATI and from what I have seen its not as bright as say a Blue Plus but the colors in the coarls are much better then a Blue Plus (IMO).

I have a T-5 retro coming for my 80G reef and I will be using ATI actinics so once I get them setup I will take some pictures. But it will most likely be after Christmas as I do not see that I will have much time between now and then!

Good luck with your choice,

Keith

I currently run a 10K MH on one of my tanks and decided I wanted to add some more actinic to the lighting. After some debate I thought I would go for the T5's but I had the same issues on bulb selection. As a compromise I settled on one Actinic and one Blue+. Hopefully I will have these new lights up and running by next weekend and I will let you know how they look.

Here are a couple of pics of what the T5HO Blue+ bulbs look like. Thesea are really close to what mine actually look like.

hmmm lots of blue, but how does it do making the corals flourece

Here is a shot that is very close to real colors of our main with the MH
I just need to find a good actinic to make things flourece

Tim, great shot! I am very interested in this as I will be converting from PC's to 6 t5's for my 90. I have been told on reefcentral to go with 1 GE, 2 aquablues and 3 blue+ from reefgeek.com. That is probably the route I will go. I would love to see some tank pics under t5's. BTW, your tank looks awesome!!

Kc189(kieth) - Where are you getting your retro from?

I will be getting the bulbs, relfectors, endcaps, and standoffs from Sunlight Supply. I will be useing a IceCap660 to power them so I am not getting the full retro from SLS. I hope to have them setup just after Christmas!

They don't flouresce like the VHO actinics do, but they do make the greens and oranges pop pretty good. I'll try to get mofe shots a hammer I have and some orange centered zoos under the blue+ only. The previous pic I posted is not with my XM 10k on. That, along with the blue+, creates a nice blueish-white light. Those 39w blue+ bulbs are almost two years old and have lost some intensity.

Tjay, your tank looks great. I think that is the first full tank shot you've posted so far.

Wow guys, thanks
The tank has a special place for Donna and I, the aquarium and my big screen is about all we own that we had pre Katrina.
I can tell you, that tank is a reflection of the support we have gotten from this group and the good people we have met since landing here.

I have to say I still fill like I am a stranger in a strange world. Can not quite get used to the fact I live in Dallas. But the reefing community here has made the move better for us.

I am a virtual noob when it comes to reefing since I started this past March, but I love the hobby and as soon as Donna lands a job we are going for a larger tank, maybe a fowler. Donna wants a puffer and I really like triggers.

So as the tank grows I will update pics, the SPS we got at the frag swap are showing signs of growth and that is a good thing.

I got my tek fixture in and my bulbs. Since, it is my present, I won't be able to post any pics until after Christmas...wife's orders.

Hey guys, I dont have any T5 bulbs on my system, but I have been looking at them lately....contemplating to add a little extra light to my system with them. They do carry some 420nm T5 bulbs and 460nm I think. Here is a link to get them and they are on sale right now. If you get them...I would like to see what they look like.
