Sun Coral wont open and eat

I pick up a sun coral and it been in my tank for a week now. It look healthy and orange. Unfortunately it havent open up and wanting to receive foods. I look up online and i did exactly what they said to maintain the sun coral. I was worry about my sun coral is expose to too much light but I have T5 lighting and the Sun coral is inside a semi cave, not complete dark but cover enough shade. If anyone have any solution please help me. thank you in advance.

It takes a while ... especially if it wasn't eating at the store in the first place. Sun Corals are not easy corals. They take a lot of time to get them to feed regularly. Most people tend to over feed their tank and end up raising their levels on their tank and give up.

I'd say keep trying. If not I'd be willing to take it off your hands depending on the price or trade you something for it.

Suncorals do not require a lot of light. But, a lot of light won't hurt them. I have my 80 head suncoral about 12" from my 250W MH. And its doing great. I've had it there about 5 months. I actually keep him on my frag rack, to make feeding easier. When I feed my fish, I just pour directly on top of my suncoral. He grabs what he can and the fish tear through the rest of it.

I agree with kthomas. Good luck with yours!

thank you both, i will wait and work with it. the piece i have is really nice, it grow on a shell with some kind of red clam next to it. that why is my favorite piece in the tank. I Dont want it to see it die. but then again thank you.

Just keep feeding it - it'll figure it out soon enough. It does better with larger pieces like mysis but it will grab onto brine shrimp and such. I'd think if you fed it every day for a week or so it 'should' start opening around the regular dinner time. Light dosen't matter - it dosen't use it so you can't under or overdo it unless you have so much light it gets burnt.

What I did with mine was, take it out and place it in a container (be cautious about maintaining temp if you are going to have it out for a long time, and don?t expose it to air in the transfer) or you can find an easily accessible place in your tank, and squirt it with some fish food juice for a bit, then when it opens up, start feeding.

thank you V32 and dheercrossing. lately it been eating slowly. i cut up a 2 litter bottle and make it into a tube and put it over the sun coral and then squirt the fish juice mix with garlic juice for it to open slowly. it start to eat really slow now. i post some picture later tonight. thank you all

Just keep feeding him. You have the right idea with the coke bottle, but once it gets used to the feeding you won't need it. I normally feed my fish first and squirt some juice around my suncorals to entice it to come out. Then when the fish gets done, I turn off all my powerheads and feed the suncoral. I love mine, and it eat's as much as all my fish!!!...LOL.

I also have a fairly new sun coral.....I target feed mine, I will feed the fish first and it will start to come out. Once they start coming out, I shut my water flow off for a little while and ATTEMPT to target feed what I can. They are doing VERY well and let me know now when to eat. Just takes time.....Mine sit on the bottom under the lights all day, they don't mind it at all. Good luck with yours, I am actually thinking of getting more.
