SUMP!!!!

So Ive been working on hooking my first sump up all day today. And finally got it done. I turned both sides on and the system was running fine, the pump is an eco plus 1276. And the current seemed a little strong, yet all the sudden it started spewing a foggy white sand like substance. So I immediately turned the entire system off. Any thoughts>? Or has this ever happened to anyone else.

Could it have just been excess air in the lines or air leaking in some place? Did you put sand in the sump?, maybe was just some unsettled dust or debris. When i turn my return pump off and do a water change of some maintainace, it will do that for a bit. Then clears back up in a hour or less. So it might be nothing...hard to say without seeing it. How long have you had the tank setup? How long did you run it before you shut it off?

Since it was your first sump, you're on edge and rightly so. It's new and different and a bit scary. Saltpro may be right in that your pump sucked in some sand if you had it set up that way. Tell us more.

It sure was scarey for me when i set mine up first time....had dreams of the house flooding... lol Im sure glad i went with a sump though. Tanks stays so clear and clean.

I agree with Saltpro. It is probably just detritus. However, if it does not start to clear up check the return line that is hooked up to the pump. All it takes is a small hole in the line to act like a venturi valve and suck in air. I doubt this is the problem because the setup is new. Good luck!

The pump was actually too strong, and the overflow couldn't keep up with the return. Therefore, it was actually just a massive amount of bubbles.
