sump size under cabinet

I have a 120 gallon Oceanic, 48x24x24. I want to get a bigger sump. My metal halide ballasts are under the cabinet. Does anybody keep their ballasts under there with the sump or put them somewhere else? I could put them somewhere else but it probably would look more junky. I'm trying to decide whether to move them and get a bigger sump or leave them and settle for a smaller sump. Any opinions? Thanks to all the members for their great advice and help to newbies.

figure out how to mount the ballast on the side wall, ceiling, etc.. of the cabinet. I mounted mine on the side wall so that in case of tank overflowing, it wont be sitting in water.

Then you have all the floor space you need.

I have a 140 gallon that has the same stand dimension as yours. I put my ballast on a shelf right below the ceiling of the stand. The shelf has a hinge attachment with an arm that folds so that I can fold the shelf down to do any kind of maintenance. I also have some power strips and timers on that shelf as well. I will take a pic maybe on turkey day since that is the only time I have cause I do holiday lights for people on my days off from fire station.

Good ideas. I have two ballasts, one for metal halides, one for actinec strips. I agree it would be good to get them off the bottom of the floor of the cabinet. I didn't put them in like that. They were done by a LFS.

Thanks for all the help.
