Sump for a 90 gallon

Ok I am trying to figure out how I can fit all of the sump and refugium in the stand. I have an area of 34"Lx18"Dx30"T. For my skimmer it will need a width of 10" min. I was thinking about a design of Skimmer > Return < Refugium. The problem is that the skimmer section and the bubble traps I have about 18" left for the fug and the return section. I don't want to make the return section so small to where I am adding water 3 times a day and I also don't want to make the fug section so small it isn't helping much. Any suggestions?

You could get away with a smaller return section if you had an auto top off. You still don't want to make it tiny incase your switch failed. But you could put two switches in the return area, one for the top off and then one for the low mark, it could turn off your return pump if the autotop off fails. Saving the return pump.

Or you could do a raised fuge section. Look at Marcs sumps he has one like that.

The problem with auto top off is that I have to add another section since I am no where near water. I have thought of a raised section just have never had one before.

Got room to do a display refuguim? Then you're not restricted on your 'fuge OR your sump... :)

(Of course, I'm a little biased, but hey...)

Mine would be tough without an auto-topoff (2 5-gal jugs on the shelf above the sump, but I could run it deeper to accomodate reduced manual topoff requirements and still hold backflow from my 90gal. But my issue with topoff is salinity, I don't want too much evap before I replace it.

The dimensions are 36L x 18W x 17T ~35-38g when active.
Skimmer stands about 4in out of the sump (asm g2)
Skimmer section is 10.5W
Big 15g fuge easily accessible in front.
Rear middle section would be great for frags if you want. Just need light.

To fit your stand, you could shorten the fuge and back area between the skimmer section and the return section, but you'd have to run an internal pump. I run my mag12 external. Again, the return section doesn't hold a whole lot, but the bubble traps work whether you running shallow or deep.

And convincing me it is a good idea and that the cats wont use it as their own personal playground.
