sump bubble trap spacing question

I think I know the answer, but wanted to make sure. I know the minimum spacing between baffles in a bubble trap for a sump is 1". If I put the baffles 1.5" apart, would the bubble trap be more effective?
 
I used a 1x4 as a spacer when I put mine in.. i heard some like them a little father apart but I had a space issue and wanted to get as much sand bed space as possible...
 
Yes. The wider the space the slower the flow and that will allow the air bubble to rise to the surface and pop.
