Suggestions for RO units

Hi,

We are looking into purchasing a RO unit. We have a 90 gallon SW tank.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

thank you,

Come to the frag swap tomorrow and you may win one as a door prize!

Air, Water, and Ice is one of our sponsers as well as Melev's Reef - both specialize in RO units.

I currently am setting up my 90g SW tank and I recently purchased an RO/DI unit from one of our members. I couldn't be happier with the unit and the customer service Mark has provided. I highly recommend.

That's the same one I have had for almost a year and it works great. Marc is always willing to help with it when he can too.

Third vote for Marc's unit. I have been using one for 9 months and couldn't be happier with it. Marc is more than willing to help out with any questions that come up.

Make sure to check with your city to find out if they use chlorime or chloramine's to disinfect the water, then get the appropriate filters with your unit. Summer month's are when you will see a problem here, so it help's to be prepared.

Cheers,

I give a vote for marc, but have to put in a plug for another good friend's kit:

100GPD RO/DI for $177 which comes with built in pre-RO pressure gauge, back flush valve, and all canisters mounted in a single unit with the DI resin canister being refillable.

I may be a bit biased but Marc's might have an advantage for us. We need the extra pre-filter because we use so much water that we would be replacing the expensive DI material faster if we didn't have it. I would exchange the pressure gauge for another filter element any day because the pressure gauge is a 'oh, that's neat' and forget it device.
I like the TDS device but honestly, I've taken my unit over to Marc and he helped me rebuild it (I got mine used...bad mistake because I didn't know anything about them). I doubt I would drive to Colorado for that one on one service.

You can always add another sediment filter as an additional canister before the main unit? I know it's 6 of this half dozen of the other, but when I used to run a 75GPD RO/DI I didn't have to change the presediment that often.

I don't either, I thought the water had more gunk than that. I edited above, it has two charcoal filters and one sediment filter.
I've also heard the suggestion to use a 75 gpd for some reason.

the 75 gpd RO membranes have the same dissolved solids in the outbound good water as the 50 gpd membrane, just a larger surface area so they can make more. The 100gpd membranes allow more dissolved solids through them. So in essence, the 75gpd is the most efficient.
