sugar grain sand sucks

My powerheads constantly rearrange my sand and it makes it hard to get good flow.

Right now my sandbed is about 2 inches...

Should I pump it all out and replace with larger grain sand, or add another 2 inches of larger sand?

what may help is to simply add some larger grain stuff to the areas where the flow is moving the sand. i know marc tried this and i think he had success.

I love my Oolitic sand! Just don't point the flow right at the sand, or in such a way that it bounces around and hits the sand with a whole lot of force...

Theres a balance where you can get enough flow to prevent any nuisance growth without blowing sand everywhere.

My biggest problem is the clown fish doing the "sand dance". I have a big GSM Clown that will cloud up the whole tank by wriggling around int eh sand.

Mine rearranges frags.....

Does she host in anything?? You can help that by moving the host up off the sand if you can.

I have a Mag18 return at the top of the tank/a Tunze 6100 midway
in the tank and a Tunze wavebox midway opposite side of tank.
It took a few days of watching the sand and adjusting the inlets on
all pumps, but I did find a sweet spot that didn't move the sand.
I did have one spot I couldn't get it to stop blowing around and
I took a flat small rock and put it on top of the sand, problem solved.
Adjustment and patience is the key factor.

My giant Squassmosa does a number every week or so,
but that is what maintenance is all about.
