Sucked in and growing fins

Hello everyone! I am pretty new to the fish world so I figured here is the best place to start. I have discovered in my short time in this hobby that the only thing i do more than spend money is ask questions. I am sure everyone at the LFS hates me by now but oh well..now on to why I am here. I found the DIY sump building guide by Marc and am in the process of gathering materials and what not to start it but I had a few questions regarding what exactly goes into the sump and where such as the plumbing and some of the shelving that are in some of his pictures...The plans are fantastic but some of it confuses me and I really, really don't want to screw it up. My tank is a 55gal and if anyone has the time I would love to ask questions and pick some brains, especially on corals. Thank you in advance for the help and I look forward to coming to the meeting on July 11th. I hope there is a row of chairs for noobies in the back somewhere!

Welcome to the addiction Jeremy. This is a perfect place to ask questions and pick brains (stay away from Abby Normal). So post up and enjoy.

Welcome and ask away. You will hopefully be pleased with the amount and quality of information you receive. It would also be helpful to add you metroplex location to your profile info so folks can see what general area of the metroplex you are in. You will likely find several members near you.

howdy, and welcome to the site, and hopefully soon to our group...post everything about your tank, what you want, and what you have questions about and you will recieve more than enough help, i assure you. see you at the meeting. (oh, and btw, noobs have to sit in the front row, lol)

Well first off...thanks for the fast responses. makes me feel at home already! The quick overview of my tank is...55gal. 3 fish. engineer goby, Foxface, and a flame hawk. I have 3 starfish, 2 cleaner shrimp, assorted snails and hermits, though not many, and 1 Emerald crab who is always in a bad mood! I also have 1 small mushroom rock. Forgive my lack of knowledge but it is purple with blue bumbs lol..very technical. I am currently working on building a sump. Once the sump is in then I will find a skimmer to place in it. As for now I have a HOB prism. My tank is by no means perfect, especially after I have seen several of the pics all of you have put in, but I plan on getting it that way in time. This is kinda my test run for when I move back to dallas and am able to set up a larger tank. If i am leaving out something please let me know, I have so many things to ask. Thanks again everyone!

Jeremy,
on the contrary, your tank is perfect. it's perfect because it's yours and gets your feet in the door. I dont care whether you're just setting up your first tank or you've been in the hobby for the past 50 years, you will always learn something new. I've seen a bunch of people start out with 55 gal tanks and either move up to larger ones, or downsize to nano's. Allow yourself time to acclimate to the hobby and read as much as you can. If you question something, by all means, ASK. We're here because we had questions and looked for a forum to ask them as well. The Club and people here have done more to make me feel welcome in the Metroplex than anyone or group I've found. So Relax, enjoy and join us as we tackle problems from lighting to propagation to what everyone's doing for the 4th. it's a great group of people. I hope you see the truth of that soon.
