storing liverock

I recently broke down my tank due to a move, but kept several pieces of liverock for my next setup. I wont be able to setup the new tank for atleast a few months and want to know best practices for storing this rock. Currently I have them on my porch drying out in the sun and plan on soaking them a few days in a vinegar solution, then rinse, then soak in a bleach solution, then rinse rinse rinse. I'm assuming then let them dry out as much as possible and then box up and store? Is this a terrible idea?

Ive just let it sit in the sun and rinsed it with water then dry and repeat a couple times. Use it to start a tank with about 3 months before livestock. Keep an eye on phosphates when your ready to use it.

Sent from inside the shark tank!

If you have the time and are already going through a bleaching process, why not go all out and give it a muriatic acid bath too?

at the moment, I dont have any muriatic acid on hand. I didnt really want to have to deal with that stuff. I'm must going to bleach/vinegar/rinse a couple times and let dry out. Hopefully that should be alright.

A far more simple method is to put them in a trashcan full of saltwater with a powerhead in a controlled climate room or closet. Just let it do its thing in total darkness. If you invert the lid (assuming it is domed), the condensation will drip back into the container, negating any need for top off. If you changed the water once a month, you'd remove trapped nutrients and by the time you set up the tank the rock will be "cooked" and algae free.

I've been doing this for years. I have a barrel that has had rock in it for at least 3 years, which I reach into as needed for new aquascaping needs.
