If you have one already, would you do it again?
Do the powder coated steel stands prevent rust? For how long?
What is the average cost for a steel stand, say about 60" long?

steel stands will outlast wooden one easily. I would recommend powdercoating because it is more durable and flexible then paint. its a going to be more expensive then wooden because you would still have to put a outside facade to cover the stand. i paid about 150 in materials to build my own so i could see it being a little expensive. but for me i never have to worry about water damage an structural problems and thats more then worth it for me.

I spent a lot on mine, and LOVE it. Mine is over two years old, and one spot did look a bit rusty even though it was powder coated. I did a light sanding on that area and painted it over with a brush and black paint to protect it. You can't tell, and it hasn't had an issue since. http://melevsreef.biz/tanks/steel-stand-walkboard

More room underneath with metal stand than a wood stand especially on big tanks

I would like a steel stand but I dont have a welder and Im not very good at welding. But I can work on wood and I can and do build wood stands for myself. In the process of building one for my new tank right now.
